Meet the artist, Quentin Southall

My Story

Welcome! Step into the world of Quentin Southall, a multi-talented individual who has seamlessly combined his passion for art, his prowess in athletics, and his entrepreneurial spirit. Hailing from the vibrant city of Alexandria, Virginia, Quentin's journey is a testament to the power of determination and the pursuit of creativity.

Born with a natural artistic inclination, Quentin's journey began at the Torpedo Factory Art School in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, where he honed his artistic skills as a child. However, as he grew up, his athletic aspirations took center stage, leading him to focus most of his free time on playing basketball. By the time he attended Georgetown Prep for high school, he was able to find a balance between following his athletic pursuits and sustaining his artistic proclivity. For his Junior and Senior years at Prep, he served as the team captain of his high school basketball team and was also enrolled in AP Studio Art I & II. After being recruited by the Richmond Spiders Men’s Basketball team as a senior, the path ahead seemed clear – a promising basketball career awaited him in college.

Yet, life took an unexpected turn with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The abrupt pause in his athletic pursuits left Quentin with a creative void that he was eager to fill. Armed with a sneaker painting kit, he embarked on a journey that would begin to redefine his identity.

From personalizing his own sneakers, Quentin's artistry caught the eye of those around him, leading to a demand that he could hardly have anticipated. People sought his unique touch, and what started as a pastime evolved into a thriving sneaker customization business. Balancing academics, basketball commitments, and his entrepreneurial venture was no small feat, but Quentin's determination and passion propelled him forward.

Over the years, Quentin has adorned sneakers with electrifying designs, from pop culture references to social movements, turning ordinary footwear into wearable masterpieces. His portfolio boasts intricate portrayals of movie characters, musicians, abstract concepts, and much more, spanning an array of sneaker models and styles.

Beyond the artistry, Quentin's success is a testament to his ability to harmonize different aspects of his life. As a Division I basketball player at the University of Richmond, he exemplifies the fusion of athletic excellence and artistic expression. His commitment to his craft and his studies, coupled with his sporting achievements, showcases his determination to excel in all facets of life.

For Quentin, success isn't confined to traditional metrics. It's about finding joy in the things that matter most, living authentically, and savoring the freedom that comes from pursuing one's passions. He believes in a life enriched by experiences, relationships, and personal fulfillment – values that stand as the foundation of his journey.

As Quentin continues to create, innovate, and inspire, he leaves an indelible mark on the worlds of art, sports, and entrepreneurship. His story serves as a reminder that the pursuit of passion knows no bounds, and that true success lies in the joy of creation and the authenticity of one's journey.

FAQs

What paint products do you use?

I use Angelus Brand paint which is a specialized leather paint that utilizes a flexible, self-leveling, non-cracking formula that adheres to multiple surfaces such as leather, vinyl, patent leather, canvas, and more. I also finish all my artwork with LiquidKicks Top Coat Finisher which is a very durable and high-quality leather coating.

What if I don’t know what design I want exactly?

It all starts with an idea. Send me an email with ideas, questions, or photos and I am more than happy to brainstorm with you about creating your possible design. If you prefer, you can also email me and ask to set up a Zoom meeting to explain your ideas to me.

How long will the artwork last?

The paint products that I use are extremely scratch-resistant, UV-resistant, waterproof, and chemical-resistant. The artwork on your customs will, in most cases, outlast the life of your shoes, and is built to not deteriorate from daily wear-and-tear. Please note: For unique sneakers, high-stress areas are more susceptible to paint erosion, especially near the bottom of soles.

What fabrics and materials do you use?

The materials that I use are mostly synthetic leather and vinyl materials for leatherworking and sneaker building. Most of the designer materials I use, such as fabrics and monogrammed leather, are unauthorized authentic.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Because every design is custom painted, sneaker customs usually take between 5-10 weeks to arrive upon ordering depending on the chosen design. Most apparel and custom clothing will usually take a week to arrive upon ordering.

What is the typical price range for a custom order?

The price range for custom orders is usually between $350 - $500 for a design, depending on its complexity. Communicate with me through email to get an exact price for your specific design. Add the price of the sneaker and shipping to the design and that is the total price of your custom.
